The American Institute of Stress has found that 83% of workers in the US experience stress due to their jobs, which results in a cost exceeding $300 billion each year for the American economy, considering absenteeism, employee turnover, diminished productivity, and healthcare costs.


This document will delve into three primary sources of severe stress in the workplace and provide viable methods for managing them. Grasping the underlying factors of your stress and implementing potent tactics can lower stress, boost your health, and increase your work productivity.


Cause 1: Excessive Workload

A leading cause of severe workplace stress is an excessive workload with inadequate time to complete it. Being perpetually swamped with assignments, projects, and duties can make you feel pressured, stressed, and incapable of fulfilling the demands of your supervisor, clients, or coworkers. This situation may result in anxiety, irritation, burnout, and a decline in work quality.


Remedy:

·       Organize your responsibilities by their level of urgency and significance. Concentrate on the tasks that are most crucial and beneficial, while assigning or deferring those that are not as important.

Regard change as an opportunity for growth, not as an adversary, and consider difficulties as occasions to gain knowledge, rather than setbacks.


Cause 3: Interpersonal Conflicts

Workplace stress often stems from conflicts with colleagues, superiors, or clients. Clashes in personalities, communication issues, and disagreements can create feelings of tension and anger, resulting in distrust, hostility, a sense of isolation, and decreased teamwork.

·       Foster constructive and courteous interactions with your colleagues. Demonstrate care, gratitude, and understanding toward others while steering clear of rumors, negative critiques, or assessments. Acknowledge and honor the varied talents and achievements within your team.

·       Engage in clear, honest, and respectful communication at work, articulating your thoughts, feelings, and needs while actively listening to others with empathy. Use positive, productive language, steering clear of negativity or aggression.

·       Address disputes calmly and professionally, striving to comprehend the other party's viewpoints and necessities. Aim for a resolution that serves the interest of all involved, steering clear of fault-finding or hostility, and concentrate on objective facts and desired outcomes.

·       If you find yourself unable to sort out a conflict or challenge independently, consider approaching someone like your supervisor, a colleague, or the human resources department. Describe the circumstances, how you're feeling, and what you hope to achieve, then seek their guidance, assistance, or involvement.
